When the Lewis & Clark expedition ran out of food, their blacksmith was able to manufacture axes like this to trade for corn. These were large with long haft and must have been used as clubs as they reportedly were not sharpened. 22 1/4” file branded ash haft. The head is 7 3/4” x 4 3/4” with small weeping heart cut-out.
